Mastercaster Infos :

Grundlegende Idee war einen verbesserter Nachfolger der Jabocaster zu entwickeln der in der Lage ist alle Soundbereiche die die Scorpions brauchen abzudecken, von Hammerheavy bis ultraclean, wobei alle Sounds direkt von der Gitarre aus kontrolliert werden. Im Unterschied zum Vorgänger sollten 24 Bünde zum Einsatz kommen. Die Entwicklung zog sich über mehrere Prototypen, die in ihrer jetzigen Form das absolute Optimum darstellt :

• Body : alte deutsche Erle
• Hals : europäischer Ahorn, carbonverstärkt, medium D
• Griffbrett : Palisander, long scale
• Bünde : jumbo Dunlop 6150 ( Gibson )
• Mechaniken : Kluson diecast
• Brücke : FloydRose orginal
• Pickup Bridge : „Masterbucker B“ ( HBSC Kombination Humbucker / Single Coil, patentiert )
• Pickup mitte : Funkstrat, reverse polarity
• Pickup Neck : „Masterbucker N“ ( HBSC Kombination Humbucker / Single Coil )

Schaltung :

• 1x Volume für Bridge Pickup
• 1x Volume für Mitte / Neck Pickups
• 1x Mastertone (mit org. NOS Paper-oil Kondensator, á la 50s LP ), Push / Pull gezogen schaltet den Halspickup von Singlecoil zu Humbucking ( Paf )
• 1x Leadswitch (schaltet aus jeder Einstellung den Bridge Humbucker direkt auf die Ausgangsbuchse, der komplette Rest der Schaltung ist von der Buchse getrennt)

Schaltstellungen des 5-Weg Schalters ( von Bridge nach neck ) :

• Bridge Humbucker
• Bridge Humbucker + Mitte Pickup
• Bridge Singlecoil + Mitte Pickup ( humbucking effect )
• Mitte Pickup + Neck Pickup (als Singlecoil, P/P unten Humbucking effect)
• Neck Pickup, je nach P/P Stellung Humbucker ( Paf ) oder Singlecoil ( Funkstrat )

Besonderheit der Volumenregler ist das bei Zurückregeln keine Soundverluste entstehen und bei Schaltstellungen wo beide Regler aktiv sind sie völlig unabhängig voneinander arbeiten. Auch wenn ein Regler komplett zugedreht wird, funktioniert der andere noch ( nicht wie bei einer LP ).

Besonderes Augenmerk gilt auch der Halsverbindung. Wg. der 24 Bünde wurden Cutaways und Halspassung leicht modifiziert zwecks besserer Bespielbarkeit. Klanglich am besten wird auch hier die gute alte 4-Loch Stahlplatte verwendet. Die Verbindungsflächen zwischen Body und Hals sind unlackiert was zusätzlich zur Klangentfaltung beiträgt ( alter Jimi Hendrix Trick mit erstaunlichen Ergebnissen ). Das org. FloydRose Tremolo liegt großflächig auf der Decke auf, Verstimmungsprobleme sind ausgeschlossen.

Lackierungen sind ultradünn und handpoliert.

Mastercaster Infos :

The basic idea was a better follow up of the Jabocaster. It should be able to produce all the different sounds of the Scorpions, from wallcrashing heavy to ultraclean. All sounds should be avaiable from the guitar controls. Also it should feature 24 frets. The development took a couple of prototyps, the final model represents the optimum. This varity of sounds is possible by the use of the brandnew Dommenget patented pickups, carfully made to Matthias specifications.

Switching :

• 1x Volume for Bridge Pickup
• 1x Volume for Middle/ Neck Pickups
• 1x Mastertone (with org. NOS Paper-oil Condenser, like 50s LP), Push/Pull switches the neck-pickup from singlecoil to humbucking (Paf)
• 1x Leadswitch (switches the bridge humbucker straight to the socket, the remaining circuit is completly disconected)

Positions of the 5-way switch ( from bridge to neck ) :

• Bridge Humbucker
• Bridge Humbucker + middle pickup
• Bridge Singlecoil + middle pickup (humbucking effect)
• middle pickup + neck pickup (as singlecoil, P/P down humbucking effect)
• neck pickup, depending on the P/P position humbucker (Paf) or singlecoil (Funkstrat)

Another advantage of the volume-controls is the constant soundquality plus both controls work independent. If one control is completly turn down the other still works (not like LPs). The neck-joint and cutaways are slightly modified to allow full playability of the 24 frets. For soundreasons we use the good old 4-hole steelplate to hold the neck. The connection is "wood-on-wood" non-laquered to enhence the sound even more ( an old Jimi Hendrix trick with remarkable results ). The org. FloydRose tremolo is mounted flat to the top (downwards only) for more sustain and stay-in-tune-ability.
